IUKA - Verlon Comer Deaton, 91, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2006, at the Tishomingo Manor Nursing Home in Iuka. She was a member of the Iuka Baptist Church. She loved gospel music and enjoyed quilting and cooking.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Cutshall Funeral Home Chapel in Iuka with the Rev. Ron Plymel officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
Survivors include one daughter, Faye Underwood of Cane Creek, Ariz.; one stepdaughter, Becky Swanson of Pickwick Dam, Tenn.; one brother, Ray Johnson of Sheffield, Ala.; one sister, Louise Harrison of Dyersburg, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Earl McIntosh and Becky Thacker, both of Iuka, Butch Underwood of Chicago, Ill., Sue Marques of Cane Creek, Ariz., and Amy Perryman of Columbia, Tenn.; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Earl Comer and Alvin "Shorty" Deaton; a daughter, Erline Zalewski; and a grandson, Michael Nash.
Pallbearers will be Alfred McIntosh, Jerry Comer, Bobby Johnson, Robbie Harrison, Alfred Comer Jr. and Mackie Lovelace.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
