Funeral Sunday For
Mrs. Lucy Newton 75

Funeral services for Mrs. Lucy Newton, 75,
of this city were held Sunday afternoon
from the late home on South Miller street.
Death occurred at the home Friday evening
following an illness of a number of months
duration, and her condition had gradually
grown weaker since a paralytic stroke
several months ago.

Rev. R. T. Ballew, of Knoxville,
a former pastor of Toulon M. E. church
was in charge of the services at the
home and at Toulon cemetery. Song service
was given by Mrs. George Jones and
Mrs. H. N. Draper, accompanied at
the piano by Mrs. Carolyn Wallace.
Selections were "Jesus, Lover of My Soul"
and "We're Going Home Tomorrow."
Body-bearers were Carl Ogle, Robert Ogle,
J. V. Colwell, Clyde Standard, J. T.
Bergin and Arthur Shinn.

Born in Fairview.
Lucy Annette Shinn, the youngest daughter
of Job and Diana Wright Shinn, was born
January 19, 1857, in Fairview, Fulton county.
She passed away at her home in Toulon,
being aged 75 years, seven months and 27 days.

She was united in marriage December 21, 1876,
to William Arthur Newton, of this city,
her husband preceding her in death 10 years.

Four children were born to this union,
all of whom survive as follows:
Mrs Addie Buffmam, of Saskatchewan, Canada;
William S. and Jay H., of Toulon, and Miles A.,
of Cleveland, Ohio.
Eight grandcvhildren also survive.

The Shinn family moved to Toulon when
Mrs. Newton was only a small child,
and with the exception of two years
spent in Missouri, her life has been
spent in and near Toulon.
She was a life-long member of the
Toulon Methodist church and during
her active years served in the
different church organizations.
She was also amember of the Eastern Star lodge.
