Jesse W. Burks entered into rest at his home in Ulman, March 23,
1932. He was born near Iberia on April 12, 1850, being 81 years, 11 months
and 11 days old. He was the only remaining one of Allen Burks' family.
He was united in marriage to Alcena Lansdown October 10, 1871,
and to this union five children were born, all living except one, who died
in infancy. They are Walter Burks, Mrs. Josie Nixdorf, Mrs. Lou Bass and
Mrs. Chas. Bass, all of Ulman.
Mr. Burks lost his first wife in death and he was again united
in marriage to Alice Barr, March 11, 1900, and to this unioni two children
were born, Mrs. Tracy McDonald of Iberia and Mrs. Dorothy Watkins of Ulman.
He also leaves to cherish his memory 12 grandchildren and 4
He was afflicted with cancer and had been confined to his home
for several months. He bore his sufferings in a cheerful and uncomplaining
manner. He was indeed a faithful husband, a loving father and a highly
respected citizen by everyone who knew him. His life should ever be an
example worthy for us to pattern after.
Funeral services were conducted at the Ulman Christian Church on
March 24th at 11 o'clock, before a large crowd of sorrowing friends. The
services were conducted by Rev. Scott of Eldon, after which the body was
laid to rest in the Hickory Point Cemetery.
