He passed away at the age of 85, at Manor Care - Utica Ridge, in Davenport. He resided in Grand Mound, Iowa. He was born in Fleckeby, Germany, and went to German schools. He earned a degree in agriculture. In his younger years, he worked on the family farm. At the young age of 15, he was in the German military, and was a French prisoner of war. He came to the U.S, in the early part of the 1950's. and started to farm in the DeWitt, Iowa area. Eventually he operated a farm in the Grand Mound area. He married his bride on April 16, 1966, in Clinton, Iowa.
They continued farming until 1993, when they retired. He really enjoyed farming and raising livestock. He was a very hard worker. He belonged to the Emmanuel Lutheran Church. He adored his grandchildren, playing cards, and reading newspaper to keep abreast of world news. He was survived by his wife and two daughters and two sons. He will also be missed by his six granddaughters. And also by his sister and a brother. He was predeceased by his parents, his brothers; Helmuth and Klaus, and his sister, Annemarie Lassen. The Service of Christian Burial was held at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Grand Mound.
