Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. today, and 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Wednesday, both at Dakota Memorial Chapel, Bismarck. A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Genevieve "Genny" Geiger was born on Dec. 10, 1933, in Harmon, the daughter of John and Katherine (Froehlich) Geiger. She attended St. Joseph Elementary School and also Mandan High School. She later returned to receive her high school diploma. She married Kasper M. Jahner in 1960. He died on July 8, 1976. Genny worked as a waitress and cook for many years.
She was a past member of the VFW Women's Auxiliary. Genny was known by many as Ma J. She retired early in 1992 to enjoy her grandchildren, gardening and coffee chats with her friends.
She is survived by her children, Deborah K. and Eugene Thomas, Mount Holly, N.C., Laura Jahner, Calleen Jahner, Sharon Poeppel, Jeffrey Jahner and Frank Jahner, all of Bismarck; nine grandchildren, all of Bismarck; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Anna Maria and Benard Traxler, Nampa, Idaho, Helen McFerran, Mandan, and Bertha Geiger, Dickinson; one brother, Thomas Geiger, Mandan; two sisters-in-law, Phyllis Wetch, Apple Valley, Minn., and Clara R. Simpson, Lorton, Va.; and three brothers-in-law, Al Jahner, Matt Jahner and Steve Jahner, all of Bismarck.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kasper; her parents, John and Katherine; two brothers, Louis and Joseph; one sister-in-law, Loretta Geiger; and one brother-in-law, Garcon McFerran.
