The Springdale News
June 4, 1909

The town of Zephyr, Texas, east of Brownwood, was visited by a cyclone shortly after midnight Sunday and a number of people killed, others injured and considerable property destroyed. Among the killed was Mrs. W.H.Hicks, sister of Col. M.D. Vance, of Springdale. Her husband and son, Gunter, and daughter, Miss Vergie, were also hurt. The family lost considerable property in the cyclone also. Mrs. Hicks has visited in Springdale and the friends she made here will be grieved indeed to learn of her untimely death..
