Daughter of George Washington & Lillie "Ethel" (Reeves) Rice, who married Feb.20, 1902 in Merrick County, NE.

Neva married James "Earl" Beck Feb 25, 1924 in Merrick County, NE. Earl was quite a prankster, and he feared a thorough "shiving" that might embarrass Neva (in response to his own antics) so they kept their marriage secret for 6 months--she with lived her parents and he as a bachelor. After 6 months they announced, and the shock of the secret kept any "shiving" from taking place.

In 1926 her 1st child, Fern, died at birth after a 2 day labor. Earl was so afraid of loosing her that he agreed to only 1 more child--he loved her so.

In 1927, Neva & Earl, and her brother George "Wilber" moved to Denver in search of work--Earl found work in a floral greenhouse. Their only child, Virginia Rose, was born April 9, 1928, and was always the apple of their eye. Shortly after Virginia was born, out of a loneliness for a church family, Neva joined the Jehovah Witness's. In 1934, Earl was told of a job in Oregon City, OR, and soon took his little family further out West. They found the land of "milk and honey", and within the next 2 years Neva's entire family would join her in Oregon City. Not only did she have her family, but a active JW community as well...it was a very good life.
