He is listed in Maple Park as Dr. B A Barrett. Next to him and wife is more likely some of his relatives as his daughter became a Moore., There is a Margaret Adah Moore Huffman in that same lot. Beside him is a Mrs. M M McClure showing Feb 1888 moved from Campbell St. I do not know if that is a death date, or date she was moved.

He has in Hazelwood Cemetery purchased lots that has Anna Prentice, Emma Henderson, and her infant 2 month old daughter. I am not sure of the relationship to him.

Suggested edit: Dr. Beverly Allen Barrett & his dog Beauregard.

Dr. Barrett would be one of Springfield's oldest physicians coming to Springfield in 1858 and practicing till his death in 1899.

Beverly was born January 8th 1826 around St. Genevieve Mo. He started studying in medical school in 1845 and completed in 1853. He first stated his practice in Dallas County, Missouri. He married his first wife Susan Randleman (of Buffalo, Missouri) in 1847, they would have five children together.

Beverly and Susan would move to Springfield in 1858 to set up his practice. When the Civil War broke out, Beverly's heart was with the South. But he would never join either side and treated both Union and Confederate soldiers and families alike.

In 1864 he moved his family to St. Louis. In 1865 his wife Susan would pass away at age of 38. Around 1870 he brought his family back to Springfield. This time they would take the Frisco Railroad all the back to Springfield.

He would move to his beloved house on 923 Boonville and maintain an office on NE corner of the Square. In 1871 he would marry Miss Marry E. Priest (26) of Maury County, Tennessee.

He attended to many sick people in the greater Springfield area going wherever he was needed. He delivered many babies and was a skilled surgeon. He was also a Mason and attended St.Pauls M.E. Church.

In his later years, although still active in his practice, He and Mary traveled extensively. He also acquire another companion, his dog Beauregard. He must have really loved this dog as he is in the photograph and in the 1895 watercolor of his home.

Beverly would pass away at home June 1st 1899 at the age of age of 73
