The village of Hilliards, Pennsylvania is name for John Hilliard.
John was the son of Jacob Hilliard, veteran of the Revolutionary War, and Catharine Reimel Hilliard.
John married Mary Parker on December 11, 1820. They had ten children, four of whom served in the Civil War.
In 1823, John erected the first grist mill on Slippery Rock Creek and the area came to be known as Hilliards Mills (shortened to Hilliards in 1912). The stone wall dam that provided the water to operate the mill still stands.

John Hilliard died on December 11, 1869 of apoplexy.
