LOUISVILLE, Ken- Rick H. Herndon of Louisville, Ky., a former Parsons resident, died Tuesday, June 19, 2007, at Baptist East Hospital in Louisville, Ky., after a long battle with cancer.
He ws born Sept. 3, 1955, in Parsons to Leondard Harold Herndon and Catherine Geraldine (Pruitt) Herndon. He grew up in Parsons, attending McKinley Grade School and both Parsons Junior and Senior High Schools, graduating in 1973.
He moved to Topeka i 1983 and was employed as a certified draftsman/designer and worked for Grindmaster Crathco for 17 years, transferring with the company to Louisville in 1998. In 2005 he was employed by Manitowoc Beverage Co.
On Oct. 1, 1980, he married Ruth E. Niebaum of Parsons. He, along with his wife loved animals and rescued many abandoned or injured dogs and cats over the years. He was an excellent artist and at an early age was able to pencil facial images of individuals quite clearly. He valued family very much and had hoped to move back to Kansas one day.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth, of the home; three stepsons, Richard and Ronnie Niebaum of Louisville, Ky., and Eugene Niebaum of Parsons; a stepdaughter, Vickie Peters of Kansas City, Mo.; a grandson, Brian Sage of Kansas City, Mo.; three sisters, Judy Adams and her husband, Butch, of Lawrence, Roxie Namey of Topeka and Gail Trow of Salina; a brother, Ronald L. Herndon of Parsons; a niece Jenny Laird of Keller, Tx.; and two nephews Jon Alloway of Mound Valley and Nick Adams of Lawrence.
He was preceded i death by his parents, Leonard Herndon in 2005 and Catherine "Gerry" Herndon in 1997; a brother-in-law, Ferry Gibson, in 1982 and his special Great Aunt, Laura Hopkins in 1978.
He will be cremated, and there will be no services at this time. Memorials are suggested to the donor's local Humane Society or the American Cancer Society. They may be left at or sent to Carson-Wall Funeral Home, Parsons.

Cremated, Location of ashes is unknown.
