Per his obit., he died from complications of measles (having gone out too soon and developed a cold which turned into bronchitis) at the home of his parents. He was a member of the Perry Rifles who furnished the pall bearers and escorted his body to Evergreen where they rendered military honors over the open grave. He was a Baptist.
