Quincy-
Ernest W. Forge, 73, Quincy, a longtime educator and civic leader, died of heart failure on Friday, March 6 1998.
He was born on August 20, 1924, to Hal W. and Ada(Hosley) Forge in Winchester, Idaho. He attended school and graduated from Clarkston High School in 1942. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 until 1946, serving on the PT 512 in the North Atlantic during WWII. He participated in the D-Day invasion.
He married Jean Kincaid on June 20, 1947, in Lewiston, Idaho. He graduated with a bachelor's degree from North Idaho College of Education (now Lewis and Clark College) in Lewiston, Idaho, in 1950. He received his master's degree in education from Washington State University in 1955.
He taught at Mullen, Idaho, High School from 1950 until 1953, teaching history, health and physical education. He also was a three-sport coach.
Mr. Forge lived in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, from 1953 until 1957, where he was the elementary principal and taught science and physical education. They moved to Quincy in 1957, where his service in school administration began as a junior high school principal. From 1961 until 1972, Mr. Forge was superintendent of schools in Quincy. From 1972 until his retirement in 1986, he was assistant superintendent and superintentent of Educational Service Districts 104 and 171 in Ephrata and Wenatchee. Mr. Forge was past president of Washington ESD Superintendents Association, past member of the executive board of the Washington Association of School Administrators and past president of the Columbia Basin Chapter of Phi Delta Kappa.
Mr. Forge was active in his community, serving on the Quincy Water Association Board for eight years and past president of Quincy Rotary. He was a charter member of the Quincy Community Action Council and past president of Greater Quincy Inc. Mr. Forge was named "Quincy Sports Booster of the Year" in 1993
He is survived by his wife, Jean Forge of Quincy; son, Greg Forge of Seattle; a daughter, Terry Noonan of Gilgandra, Australia; four grandchildren; his brothers, Walt Forge of Lewiston, Idaho and Bud Forge of Yakima; and a sister, Genevieve McLeod of Springfied, Oregon. He was preceded in death by one son, Geoffrey and his sisters, Elsie Webster and Eva Klason.
