A Funeral Mass for Mark W. Cervenka, 50, of Rosenberg will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2006 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Rosenberg with interment following at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg. The Rev. Daniel Warden will officiate the service with the Rev. Carlos Lynch assisting. Visitation will be from 5 p.m to 9 p.m with a vigil/rosary service being recited at 7 p.m., Monday, Aug. 14, 2006 in the Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Chapel in Rosenberg.
Serving as pallbearers are Lee Stavinoha, Kyle Stavinoha, Luke Stavinoha, David Cervenka, Craig Welsch, Lupe Alderete, Dennis Balusek, Duane Balusek, and Lawrence Brown.
Mark Cervenka was born Sept. 28, 1955, in Wharton. He died peacefully in Houston on Aug. 11, 2006, with his beloved wife and loving sister-in-law Mary Becerra at his side.
He was preceded in death by his father, Edward (Ed) Cervenka.
Mark is survived by his loving wife, Irene Becerra Cervenka of Rosenberg. He is also survived by his mother, Rose Cervenka; father and mother-in-law, Julio and Mary Becerra; stepdaughters Kari Lozano-Smith and Juliana Lozano; granddaughter, Shelby Lea Smith; brother, Jay Cervenka and wife, Mary K.; sister, Marilyn Stavinoha and husband, Leroy; nephews and nieces: Lee Stavinoha and wife, Cynthia, Kyle Stavinoha and wife, Melissa, Elizabeth Welsch and husband, Craig, Luke Stavinoha, David Cervenka and wife, Briana, and Anne Cervenka; grandniece, Gracie Stavinoha; brothers and sisters-in-law: Mary Becerra, Alice Becerra, Rita and Joe Calzada, Thomas and Georgina Becerra, Paul and Beth Becerra, Gloria and Victor Villarreal, Deborah and Robert Contreras, and Sandra and Jesse Sandoval.
The family also would like to acknowledge the numerous nephews and nieces in the Becerra family; the aunts and uncles from both families; Crystal and Jessica Heimann, and Gerri Becerra.
Mark owned and operated Mark's Saddlery in Rosenberg since 1994. He learned the art of saddle making and repair from his late father Ed Cervenka of Ed's Saddlery in Rosenberg. He worked previously at Lissie Wonder Garden in Lissie, Ring Around Research Farm in East Bernard, and Greenleaf Nursery in El Campo.
Mark graduated from Lamar Consolidated High School in Rosenberg in 1974 in the top 10 percent of his class; he graduated with honors from Wharton County Junior College in 1976 and summa cum laude from Sam Houston State University in 1978.
