Sandy Sigmund, 82, of Fayetteville, passed away Saturday. She grew up in Manhattan and attended Riverdale Country School. She graduated from Syracuse University where she received her bachelor's and master's degrees. While attending Syracuse University she met her husband and settled in the area. She worked as an elementary school teacher for Chittenango Schools and then retired from the Fayetteville-Manlius Schools. Sandy enjoyed her summers at her camp at Lake George and her home for the last four years at Maple Downs. She was an avid reader and enjoyed crafts, but nothing brought her more joy than her only grandchild. She was predeceased by her husband, Fred, in 2007; and by her brother, Jimmy Russell. Survivors: a daughter, Linda (Jeff) Spelder of Lafayette; a son, Fred (Nancy) Sigmund of Rochester; a sister, Edie Carroll of Centennial CO; one granddaughter, Jenny Spelder of LaFayette; numerous nieces and nephews. Services: 3:30 p.m. Saturday in the chapel at Maple Downs, 7220 E. Genesee St., Fayetteville. Burial will be private in Fayetteville Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
