Samuel M. Cornelius, retired track foreman of the Pennsylvania railraod, residing at 1117 Fourth avenue, Juniata, died at 3:10 o'clock Friday morning at the Mercy hospital. His death was caused by complications, resulting from a fracture of the left hip, which he suffered on November 26 when he fell on an icy sidewalk. He was aged 76 years.

Deceased was born on Sept. 2, 1854, in Petersburg, Huntingdon county, and was a son of James and Anna Cornelius, both deceased. He entered the Pennsy-service as a track laborer on April 1, 1872. He resigned on October 1, 1874, and was reemployed on the Tyrone division September 5, 1885, resigning one year later, then reentering the Pennsy service on the Altoona division as a brakeman where he remained until November 15, 1889, when he again resigned.
On November 10, 1890, he was re-employed in the Altoona car shops and on April 20, 1891, he was transferred to the Cresson division as a track foreman, and on February 1, 1901, he was transferred to the Altoona division which was subsequently consolidated with the Middle division, where he remained until his retirement in June, 1928.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Harriet (Kocher) Cornelius, and the following children: J. Harry Cornelius, Mrs. H. G. Scales and Mrs. C. E. Nale, all of Juniata; Mrs. Myrtle Madison of Birmingham and Mrs. J. M. Dunn of Greenwood. He also leaves one sister, Mrs. L. M. Kalb (sic-Kolb) of Tampa, Fla., thirteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was a member of the Juniata First Methodist church and the railroad relief. The funeral will take place at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the Roher & Mauk parlors in Juniata. Rev. W. W. Banks will officiate. Interment will follow in Grandview cemetery at Altoona.
