BRAZIL Brother Dale Dickison, 77, of Brazil died June 23, 2009, at the Vermillion Convalescent Center following an extended illness. He was born May 22, 1932, in Clay County, the son of Abraham Dickison and Ethel Emma Howard Dickison. He attended Wools Elementary School and then later attended Staunton High School. He served two tours in the U.S. Army and also served in the Naval Reserve. He achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant and was stationed on the front lines during the Korean War. In his work career, Dale was employed as a meat cutter, concrete finisher, and had worked at Arketex. He worked at Alcan for 23 years, retiring at the age of 55. Following retirement he went into ministry full-time. He had first attended Rock Run Church, and then later he and his family started the Turner Community Church in their home. In 1983, they built the current church and Dale served as pastor there until his health declined. He used to enjoy woodworking, working in the vegetable garden and was known as "Poppy." He was also preceded in death by his parents; one infant sister, Virgie Beatrice Dickison; twin brother, Dane Dickison; brothers, Paul, Art, Bert and Louis Dickison; and grandsons, Logan Youngblood and Dusty Reagin. On Jan. 2, 1996, Dale married Patricia Hadley Dickison, and she survives. Other survivors include children, Christopher Dale Dickison (Regina), Mary Kelly Youngblood (Tina), and Kyle David Dickison (Karilee), all of Clay County; stepdaughter, Mary Ann Lindzy; 14 grandchildren, Jason, Jeffrey, Jessica, Dakota, Kristi, Jacqueline, Dustin, Lucas, Keanon, Keifer, Kyzaya, Kaleena, Michael and Katy; 10 great-grandchildren, Arrianna, Zhoe, Zailyn, Constance, Connor, Annalise, Nathaniel, Kasper, Lara and Evie; one sister, Virginia Timberman; brothers, Samuel Dickison (Betty), Donald Dickison, Plummer Dickison; and brothers-in-law, Michael Elson and Bob Elson and a large extended family. Services are 11 a.m. Friday at French Funeral Home with Brother Robert Stultz officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will follow services at Summit Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Dale would have wanted donations to be made to United Cerebral Palsy Association, 6100 N. Keystone, Suite 254, Indianapolis, IN. 46220 or to Huntington's Disease Society of America, Indiana Chapter P.O. Box 2101, Indianapolis, IN 46206. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
