Earnest Adkins
1916-2003
Earnest J. Adkins, 87, of Argillite, KY, died Thursday, Apr 3, 2003, at his residence. Mr. Adkins was born March 7, 1916, a son of the late Johhny M and Mary Alice Gillum Adkins. He was a hammersmith in the blacksmith shop of Armco Inc., with 37 yrs of service. He attended Oldsteam Missionary Baptist Church and was a member of United Steelworkers local 1865 of Ashland. He served in the US Marine Corps during WWII. Surviving are his wife, Nannie Pauline Fraley Adkins of Argillite, whom he was married to for 65 1/2 years; a son, Richard Allen Adkins Sr of Flatwoods; two daughters, Joyce Bauman of Columbus, Ohio, and Phyllis Salyers of Argillite; a sister, Mary Adkins of Greenup; 13 grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren. The funeral will be held at 1pm Sunday at Carman Funeral Home in Flatwoods by the Rev. Johnnie Little. Burial will be in Adkins Hamilton Family Cemetery with a military graveside service by American Legion Post 93 of Kenova WV. Friends may call from 6-9pm Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contribution may be made to AAA Bellefonte Care Center or Hospice.
