Rev. B. F. Brown was the second president of Tecumseh College in Tecumseh, Oklahoma until 1927 when the school burned. At that time there was a committee considering a publication that would be located in Missouri, but a publication for everyone in the denomination. This committee offered B. F. Brown the opportunity to be the first editor, even though a resided in Tecumseh. The first issues of the Free Will Baptist GEM was published in Tecumseh, beginning January 1929. Then in May of 1930 the paper was moved to Purdy, Missouri. Rev. Brown to Purdy and continued as editor until 1939 when he retired. At that time, the publication was moved to Monett, Missouri. However , in 1946 he was called upon to rescue the magazine and became the acting editor from December of 1946 until August of 1947.
B. F. Brown during the time between 1929 until 1935 had become a leader in the Cooperative Association which existed throughout the Midwest. It later was to merge with the General Conference, a conference mainly in the Southeast, in 1935 at Nashville, Tennessee. Rev. Brown would sign for the Cooperative Association to accept the agreement with the General Conference. This agreement in 1935 formed the National Association Of Free Will Baptists. Rev. Brown was a member of the executive board and served as its secretary. Later he became a member of the Home Missions Board of the National Convention. Records revealed that he attended the national convention until about 1946.
