First Lieutenant O'Briant was the pilot of a F-51D Mustang night fighter with the 12th Fighter Bomber Squadron, 18th Fighter Bomber Wing. On July 30, 1951. while on a combat mission and during a strafing run on targets 5 miles north of Koksan, Korea, the aircraft's right wing came off disintegrating the remainder of the plane. He was presumed dead on July 21, 1952. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial. First Lieutenant O'Briant was awarded the Air Medal, the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.

Clearly a cenotaph, uncertain if his remains were recovered or if he has two other cenotaphs, one HERE and another one HERE
