Died of polio, Clarence was the son of Henry G Krull and Lucille Mildred Adams Krull, he was just 2 and a half months old when his mother died, he was raised by his father and his mother's sister Lois Yura Adams

Clarence Krull Succumbs to Polio
Clarence Krull, 11 1/2 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Krull who farm south of town, passed away Saturday morning of bulbar polio in St. John's Hospital in Huron. He entered the hospital August 1st. His condition became steadily worse and death came at 10:15 Saturday morning. His uncle Ted and two cousins, Ronald and Phyllis are still confined to the hospital with polio.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2:oo o'clock at the Harrold Methodist Church. An obituary will be published in a later issue.

Harrold Youth Is First 1953 Polio Death In Huron
The first polio death in St. John's Hospital, Huron, during 1953, occurred Saturday with the death of a 11 and one-half-year old Harrold farm youth.
Clarence Krull, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Krull, who live near Harrold, died in the hospital at 10:15 a.m. Saturday of bulbar polio. He had entered the hospital August 1.
Surviving in addition to his parents are two sisters, Helen, aged 14; and Ellen, one and one-half years old. Also surviving are the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Adams of Blunt.
His uncle, Theodore Krull, aged 49, and two cousins Ronald and Phyllis Krull, ages 12 and 14, of Harrold, are also hospitalized in Huron, receiving treatment for polio.
Presently confined in the hospital for polio treatment, having entered since June 1 of this year are seven patients.
The body was taken to the Dotson Funeral Home in Pierre.

OBITUARY
Clarence Henry Krull, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Krull, was born December 11, 1941 in St. Mary's Hospital in Pierre, S. Dak., and passed away with bulbar polio in the St. John's Hospital in Huron August 8, 1953 at the age of 11 years and 8 months.
He was reared on a farm south of Harrold owned by his father and Uncle ted. His school days were spent at Hilltop where he will be greatly missed by his schoolmates. At an early age he was interested in Sunday School works and attended the American Union Sunday School.
To know Clarence was to love him, everyone received his ready smile. He was very active in all the activities that confront a farm boy. A vacant spot is left in the hearts of all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his mother when he was 2 1/2 months of age. His aunt, later "His Other Mother", whom he learned at an early date to call "Mom" did a splendid service of raising him and caring for the rest of the family.
He is survived by his parents and two sisters and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Alden Adams, many relatives and a host of friends.
The funeral service for Clarence was held in the Methodist Church of Harrold and conducted by Wilford Stanton of the Church of Christ of Blunt.
Songs sang by Mrs. Ray Pool and Mrs. Wilford Stanton were "Face to Face", "Safe in the Arms of Jesus" and Mrs. Stanton sang "Beyond the Sunset."
The pall bearers were Johnny Misterek, Bob Russell, Leonard Auch, and Sam Hieb.
Those attending from afar were: Mrs. J.W. Long, Rome, Ga.; Mr. and Mrs. Eielt Krull, Roy, Utah; Mr. and Mrs. Merwyn Adams and family, Albin, Wyo.; Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Berhman and family of Montevideo, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Anton Doeden of Sturgis; Mr. and Mrs. Albert Burki of Pukwana; Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Ferren of Wessington Springs; Mr. and Mrs. Roy Cook and LeRoy of Spearfish; Mr. and Mrs. Carol Ebert of Sioux Falls; Mr. and Mrs. Anton Poppen and Mr. and Mrs. Warren Sprang of Willow Lake; Lou, Rena, Polly and Willie Claassen of Bancroft; John Sprang, Mr. and Mrs. F. H., Mr. and Mrs. Otto and Mr. Henry Poppen all of DeSmet.
There was $157.00 given to Memorials and this is to be given to the polio fund in memory of Clarence Henry.
