She was lovingly called "Mamaw across the bridge" by her great granddaughter who had 5 grandmothers and gave her that title because of the small wooden foot-bridge between their homes. This was a title that Ruth wore like a crown!

BESSEMER CITY, NC: Annie Ruth Houser Carpenter, 90, of 1009 Kiser Road, died March 26, 2010 at Robin Johnson Hospice House, Dallas NC.

She was born March 10, 1920 in Gaston County a daughter of the late Albert Luther Houser and Laura Janette "Nettie" Helms Houser. Mrs. Carpenter was a loving mother, faithful Christian and was loved and adored by her family and friends and will be greatly missed, she retired after 30 years of service at Firestone Mill in Gastonia. Mrs. Carpenter was a faithful member of Cherryville Church of God and an avid flower gardner, a love that she taught to all who were willing to learn.

She was preceded in death by her husband Russell Vines Carpenter, married on June 13, 1938. Also preceding her in death were seventeen late brothers and sisters.

Survivors include three sons, Dennis Carpenter, and David Carpenter and wife Faye, Stephen Carpenter and wife Tammy, two daughters Carolyn Robinson and Annette White and husband Jim, nine grandchildren, Cathy Stroupe and husband Boyce, Kelly Madison, Dale Carpenter and wife Amy, James White, Jr., Crissy Robinson and husband Andy, Catie White, Scott Carpenter and wife Faye, Brent Carpenter, Shane Carpenter, two step-grandchildren Kelly Ross, Andrew Withers, eleven great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.

Funeral Services were held at Cherryville Church of God, Monday, March 29, 2010 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Don Capel officiating. Burial followed in Westview Gardens in Bessemer City. The family received friends Sunday, March 28, from 4:00 – 6:00 PM at Carpenter's Funeral Home, Cherryville.
