Radioman 3rd Class Jerome Warren Baglien, United States Navy was on the USS Sculpin (SS-191) when it was sunk by the Japanese Destroyer Yamagumo after a surface engagement, near Truk. Jerome was rescued by the Destroyer and was being transported by the Japanese aboard the "Hell Ship" Chuyo, leaving from Truk to Japan. It was sunk by the USS Sailfish on December 3, 1943. Jerome W. Baglien was among those killed. He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart medal, and the Prisoner of War Medal. The USS Sculpin was awarded 8 battle stars for service in World War II along with the Philippine Presidential Unit Citation.
