from the Flyer for July 20, 2006:
Mary Maxine Dale of Lizton died July 15, 2006, at Brownsburg Health Care. She was 91. Born Dec. 29, 1914 in Hendricks County, she was a daughter of the late Harry A. and Edith Lydia (Hale) Rutledge. She was the widow of Jewell Meredith Dale. Mrs. Dale attended Pittsboro and Lizton elementary schools and graduated from Lizton High School in 1933. She worked 38 years at the State Bank of Lizton until retiring in 1981. Survivors include a brother, John Rutledge of Lizton and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were sisters Katherine Brady and Arline Wiley and a brother, Robert Rutledge. Services were July 18 at the Porter Funeral Home in Jamestown. Interment was at the Lizton Knights of Pythias Cemetery.
from a 1981 article on her retirement in The Republican:
Maxine (Rutledge) Dale will be the guest of honor at an open house in the Lizton Lion's Club House on Sunday, December 13, 1981 to mark Mrs. Dale's retirement from 38 years of employment at the State Bank of Lizton, serving as clerk teller, assistant cashier, and, since the opening of the new bank, as receptionist. She recalls with pleasure that she began working there with George Huber who was president for many years.
Mrs. Dale is a descendant of Asa Hale, one of the well-known pioneers of Hendricks County. Her parents were Harry and Edith (Hale) Rutledge who lived on the Hale home place from 1926 until the time of their deaths. Their family of five children pay tribute to their love of farming and the happy home life they enjoyed.
After graduating from Lizton High School in 1933, Mrs. Dale accepted employment with Margaret Wall, well-known maker of fine candies in the Lizton area. She felt her work there for four years was most enjoyable and quite a challenge. For two years, she worked for Eli Lilly's.
On Oct. 6, 1935, she and Jewell Dale were married in the Raintown Christian Church, the only wedding performed there as the building was torn down to make way for Interstate 74.
The Dales are 50-year members of the Christian Church with membership in the New Brunswick Church of Christ. She has also been an active member of the Pittsboro Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Lizton American Legion Auxiliary, the 8 and 40 Salon and the Hendricks County Hospital Guild.
