I remember my mother telling me about her great granddad who lived during the civil war. She said a bunch of men was raiding through Smoke Hole, (I believe McNeil's Rangers) they came to his house and he hid in a barrel, while he was in there a spider spun a web over the top of barrel, the men saw the spider web on top and didn't look in the barrel, so he was saved by the spider.
