Oldest Female WWII Veteran In Mass. Dies At Age 104
ATTLEBORO (CBS) – Irene Davey was the state's oldest living female veteran.
The World War II veteran passed away on Sunday from pneumonia.
Her family remembered her Tuesday as vibrant, honest, feisty and funny.
"As a grandmother she was an inspiration for life lessons," her grandson Scott Davey said.
Davey dedicated her life to her family and her country.
"She taught me to be honorable and to never lie," her daughter Patricia Desmarais said.
Her son Martin Davey said he will miss calling his mother everyday on the phone.
Davey joined the U.S. Army in 1943.
She signed up the same day as her husband Harold signed up to join.
"She says if you go, I go," Desmarais said.
It turns out that Davey loved to serve and the older she got the more active she became in her hometown of Attleboro.
She was honored in May for her service to her country.
"She loved her family, her country and her city," Desmarais said. Written by CBS on Nov 18, 2012
