Robert Edward Dyer
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Southside United Methodist Church for Master Sergeant Robert Edward Dyer, USMC retired, who died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2010. The Revs. Carrie Kramer and Byron Vance will officiate. Burial will be in Crestwood Cemetery. Crestwood Memorial Funeral home will direct services.
Master Sergeant Dyer was a native of Brunswick, Maine, son of Ralph and Jeanette (Gaudreau) Dyer. He was a 1953 graduate of Brunswick High School.
Master Sergeant Dyer had served 28 years in the U.S. Marine Corps and had a highly distinguished military career. He was an usher at President Dwight D. Eisenhower's funeral and a body guard at both of President Richard M. Nixon's inaugurations. Sgt. Dyer completed numerous training schools. His assignments took him all over the world. He was a two-tour Vietnam veteran. He was presented many decorations and awards throughout his military career.
Sergeant Dyer was a member of the American Legion Post 170 in Ashville, and VFW Post 6652 Ragland. He enjoyed sharing his many joys and experiences with his friends and family. Sergeant Dyer dearly loved his family.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda Dyer, Southside; children Donna L. (Norman) Lowery, Winter Haven, Fla., Doreen A. Weissberg, Yakima, Wash., Dennis R. Dyer, Windham, Maine, Shirley (Judge William W.) Cardwell, Southside, Steven A. (Beverly "Pat") Black, Mobile, and Tina (Mike) Mullis, Trussville; grandchildren, Gary (Barbara) Garrett, Robert (Michele) Dyer, Danielle Dyer, Jennifer (Jay) Younker, Laura Moore, Kristina Moore, Darus Moore, Derek (Kristen) Moore, Stacy (David) Engle, Scott (Christy) Cardwell, Christopher (Holley) Black and Tracy Dawn (Christopher) Cottrell; 20 great-grandchildren; brother, Stanley (Royalene) Dyer, Brunswick, Maine; many nieces and nephews; and special friends, J.T. and Violet Ford.
A special thank you to Dr. Jason Ayers and the nursing staff of MICU third- floor and eighth-floor of Gadsden Regional Medical Center.
Pallbearers are Gary Garrett, Darus Moore, Scott Cardwell, David Engle, Jason Betts and Derek Moore.

The family will receive friends at Southside United Methodist Church on Friday from 11 a.m. until the hour of service.
