John J. Reuter, 82, custodian at Cedarburg's city park since the time it was converted from a dump some twenty-five years ago, died at the home of his daughter LaVerne Benz in Cedarburg Friday morning after a year's illness.
He was born in the town of Mequon on February 26, 1874 and was married to Mary O'Toole on March 30, 1902. They operated a farm near Germantown until moving to Cedarburg.
The present Cedarburg park area on Portland Avenue was formerly a city dump. When the city decided to fill the area in and convert it into a park, John Reuter was hired as park attendant, which job he held until his retirement last year.
Surviving are eight sons and daughters. Anita and Amanda Gennrich, Madeline Labott and William of Milwaukee, Sherborn of Fox Lake, Genevieve Fuller of West Bend, LaVerne Benz and Harold of Cedarburg, and one sister, Carrie Schaefer of Milwaukee.
Funeral services were held Monday at the Gunther Funeral Home with Rev. Karl Brockhaus officiating. Interment was in Zur Ruhe.

I have conflicting information regarding John's middle name. His headstone shows a J. but according to several of his grandchildren his middle name is Ludwig. If anyone has information regarding which is correct, please let me know. Thank you
