I didn't pick Jesse -- he picked me. In the pet shop where I first saw him, he would "thunk" me on the head as I bent to play with any of the other kittens besides him. So, naturally, I had no choice. I guess God gave him to me because he would need a little extra attention. At a young age, Jesse had vestibular syndrome twice, which was frightening, but he recovered. At the age of five, he was diagnosed with diabetes. Everyone told me I would be lucky if he lived for another year after that diagnosis. Well, he sure fooled 'em!! It took a while to get his insulin regulated, but with two injections a day, he lived (and thrived) for another ten years after that. He was quite a boy -- very vocal and loving, and the only cat I ever knew that purred during the visits to the vet, and he adored me :). Jesse developed vaccine-related lymphosarcoma when he was 15. He had two surgeries and pulled through each surprisingly well. Alas, the cancer returned and spread to his lungs, and in my arms he went to the Rainbow Bridge - I loved him too much to make him stay any longer. "There's something missing in my home, I feel it day and night, I know it will take time and strength before things feel quite right. But just for now, I need to mourn, My heart -- it needs to mend. Though some may say, 'It's just a pet,' I know I've lost a friend. You've brought such laughter to my home, and richness to my days. A constant friend through joy or loss with gentle, loving ways. Companion, friend, and confidante, A friend I won't forget. You'll live forever in my heart, My sweet, forever pet." -- Susanne Taylor
