"Dr. Rockwell Passes Away
Dr. Elmer Rockwell, a veteran of the civil war and one of the best known citizens of this place died at his home in Kent last Saturday, after an illness of several months. Heart trouble and a complications of diseases was the cause of death.
Dr. Rockwell in company with his wife moved to Kent about nineteen years ago, and have resided here ever since. The deceased was a man who made friends rapidly. He was a man of strong convictions and strictly honorable in all his dealings. The writer has been personally and intimately acquainted with the deceased ever since his coming to Kent and we can truthfully say that never in all this time have we known him to do a dishonorable deed.
Dr. Rockwell was born in Pennsylvania October 7, 1845. After the Civil War he practiced medicine for many years and was recognized as one of the leading practitioners of the state.
Funeral services were held at the Chittenden Chapel last Monday, a large number of friends and acquaintances being present to pay their last mark of respect to the deceased. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. R. J. Arney of the St. James Episcopal church. The body was cremated.
He is survived by the widow Mrs. Harriet E. Rockwell and one sister, Mrs. Sarah Stephens, of Stevensville, Pennsylvania."
