John Matkin Richart died Friday, March 16, 2007, after a battle with cancer. He was a native of Martinsville, Ill., and a resident of Gulf Shores.
After his freshman year of college, Richart enlisted in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, where he served with honor. He later graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in geology.
He was hired by Pure Oil Co., which was later purchased by Unocal, out of college and worked with that company for 29 years from his office in Jackson, Miss., before retiring to Gulf Shores.
Survivors include a daughter, Janie Richart Lieb of Daphne; two sons, John N. Richart of Panama City, Fla., and Dan Richart (Deena) of Lawrenceville, Ga.; two sisters, Virginia Spittler of Hendersonville, Tenn., and Wanda Latina of Belleville, Ill.; and four grandchildren.
Richart was cremated and buried during a private service at Pine Rest Cemetery in Foley.
Arrangements are by Mack Funeral Home and Crematory in Robertsdale.
