Mr. Ellis was born on August 18, 1924 in Lorain, Ohio, to Paul Bryan Ellis and Florence Angelus (nee Pfeiffer) Ellis.
He was the second of their six children. He grew up in South Lorain and was a graduate of Lorain High School, in 1942. Soon afterwards, he joined the U.S. Navy, and served from 1943-1946. He was a pharmacist mate, 3rd class. He also was a trumpet player in the Navy band. He was on the USS Joseph T. Dickman at Omaha Beach during the D-Day invasion in World War II. He served in both the Atlantic and Pacific war theaters. He also studied at Princeton University in the naval officers training program. He met his future wife, Beatrice C. Lechner, on a blind date. They wed on Feb. 12, 1949 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Lorain. They were married for 61 years. He graduated in 1950 from Baldwin Wallace College with a degree in Economics. He retired as a supervisor in 1973, from the former U.S. Steel Corp., Lorain Works. He was employed as a corrections officer for the Lorain Cty. Sheriff's Dept., from 1973 to 1988.
He and his wife had wintered in Englewood, Florida for 15 years, until this past winter. He enjoyed family time, classical and Big Band music, trips to Las Vegas and Biloxi, Mississippi, family reunions, and playing cards. He converted to Catholicism in 1951, and joined St. Anthony of Padua soon afterwards. He was survived by his wife, their 4 sons, 2 daughters, 13 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, and 1 great granddaughter. Also survived by two brothers and a sister, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Florence (Pfeiffer) and Paul B. Ellis, and sisters Marjorie Beres and Florence McVey.
