Gaylord Stillwell was born on September 4, 1900 in Grover Hill, Ohio; one of eight children born to John and Maggie (Garrison) Stillwell. In his youth he attended the Grover Hill School through the 8th grade. During his civic life while living in Grover Hill he served as the village Marshal.
He patriotically served his country during World War II by enlisting in the United States Army Air Corps on September 1, 1942 at Toledo and served as Private First Class with the 501st Battalion Headquarters and AB Squadron as a Firefighter. He was honorably discharged from active service at the AA base in Great Bend, Kansas, on July 12, 1943 and later from the Reserve Corps at Fort Hayes, Columbus on October 6, 1944.
Red moved to Toledo on July 16, 1943 and became associated with Dura/Kidde Manufacturing where he was employed as a machine repairman until his retirement in 1965. He was married to Opal Gertrude Imm and the couple had two daughters.
He departed this life at 3:45 am Friday, March 5, 1976 in the Wood County Hospital in Bowling Green at the age of seventy five years, six months and one day. He was admitted to the hospital from the Floro Nursing Home at McClure where he had resided the previous three years.
