Thermopolis native Clara "Ruby" Lippincott, 91, died Saturday, July 21, 2012 at the Thermopolis Rehabilitation and Care Center where she had been a resident since May 2011. She had been ill the past two years.

Born May 15, 1921 in Thermopolis, she was the daughter of Hugh and Jennie (Mayfield) Vass. She graduated from Thermopolis High School, attended the University of Wyoming for one year, and taught for a year.

She married Richard Ruddrow Lippincott. To this union three children were born. The couple later divorced.

Ruby was employed as a secretary for the Hot Springs County REA office for 35 years. After retirement, she was a volunteer at the county museum.

She was a member of the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, Eastern Star Vesper Chapter #19, Rebekahs, Historical Society and Show & Tell Club. Her interests included rock hunting, knitting, sewing, crocheting, archaeology, flowers and going to her cabin in the Owl Creek Mountains.

She was quite knowledgeable of petroglyphs. She assisted various academics in research of petroglyphs in Hot Springs County. Ruby was recognized in the book "Indian Rock Art in Wyoming" by Hendry.

Preceding her in death were her parents; step-father, George MacKenzie; son, John; grandson, Brandy Lippincott; brother, Hugh Vass; and sister, Vera Baird.

Survivors include her son, Tim (Sylvia) Lippincott of Thermopolis; daughter, Janet Thies of Casper; grandchildren, Clay (Connie) and Wade (Jessica) Lippincott, Brian Adams-Thies, Kenzie Adams and Tyler, Jeremy and Kady Thies; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Services will be held Friday, July 27 at 10 a.m. at the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church with Father Joe Galligan officiating. Burial will follow at Monument Hill Cemetery.
