I don't really remember too much about Craven my step grandfather except he was a kind and gentle soul. My paternal and maternal grandfathers were long since dead before my brother & I were born. Craven is the only grandfather I knew. He loved kids and taking us out on his boat. He was a fisherman and remembered having my own fishing pole. I kept stealing his fisherman's hat all the time so he went out and got a child's size hat just like his but I only wanted his worn out one. So Craven had to give up his cap and wore a kid's fisherman's hat.
One time he overshot the dock with his boat and had to come in sideways and me like a dope was hanging over the side of the boat and bobbing up and down until I was so sea sick, I was afraid of boats after that. I think I was less than 4 yrs old.
It was sad when I saw the headstone that he died. After my grandmother died, we never heard from him again. I'm sad too that whoever buried him didn't have his death date put on the marker.
