Nelson A. Bill, aged 68 years, retired business man and Confederate soldier, died at 2:25 o'clock yesterday afternoon at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. L. R. Mayer, 855 Park street. For several years Mr. Bill had been in ill health, suffering from an incurable malady, and his death was not unexpected.

He is survived by his wife, five daughters and three sons. The daughters are Mrs. L.R. Mayer, Mrs. Robert Armistead, Mrs. Arthur Ferrin and Mrs. John Deeth of Memphis and Mrs. Harvey Aden of Meridian, Miss. His sons are Allen G. Nelson S. and Arthur B. Bill, all of this city.

Mr. Bill was born in Nashville, June 30, 1843, and was brought to Memphis by his parents when he was about 3 years of age. He resided here all his life with the exception of the time he spent in the Confederate army. At the conclusion of the war he became a teacher in Dalberry College, one of the earliest colleges in Memphis. He soon went in to business with the firm of H. Fitzgerald & Co., wholesale grocers and after staying with them for a time, branched out into business for himself and retired in 1905 on account of ill health. His business location was always in the northern part of the city.

The deceased was a member of several secret fraternities. In addition to being a member of the Masonic Veteran Association, he was a member of Angerona Lodge No. 168, F. &A. M. : Chickasaw Lodge No. 8, I.O.O. F.; Unity Lodge No. 217, K. of H.; Robert E. Lee Lodge No. 43, K. of P., and Rose Lodge No. 405, K. &. L. of H.

All funeral arrangements have not yet been completed, but the burial will take place at 2:30 o'clock Monday afternoon in Elmwood cemetery, and services will be conducted by the Odd Fellows and Knights of Pythias.
