On Thrusday afternoon Hannah, wife of Capt. Anthony R. Swarthout, died at her home in Saginaw township. aged 79 years. Mrs. Swarhout, whose maiden name was Hannah Rose, was married to Capt. Anthony R. Swarthout in Seneca county, NY in 1816. Shortly after this Mr. and Mrs. Swarthout removed to Steuben county where they remained until 1820 when they came to Michigan, locating in Washtenaw county, then a wilderness. In September 1835 they removed to Saginaw county, where they have since resided, beloved and respected by all the people of Saginaw, which at the time Capt. Swarthout first assisted in the township organization, embraced in that primative governmental orgaization nearly the entire territory of Saginaw, Tuscola, Bay, Midland, and Gratiot counties, and extended almost interrminably towards the north. Mrs. Swarthout has had born to her seven sons and five daughters, four of each now living, all but one daughter residing in Saginaw county and comfortably settled immediately about the old home.
