Private, Company L, 7th US Cavalry. Killed in action at the Battle of the Little Big Horn, along with General George A. Custer and most of the 7th Cavalry.

Enlisted on 19 December 1865, at age 22, in New York City, listing his previous occupation as a farmer. He was discharged from military service on 19 Dec 1868, at Fort Wallace, Kansas, upon the expiration of his service. He re-enlisted on 21 May 1869, and again, on 21 May 1875, at age 30, at Fort Lincoln, North Dakota, listing his previous occupation as a soldier. He had blue eyes, brown hair, fair complexion, and was 5 feet, 6 1/2 inches tall. Originally buried where he was killed, his body was reinterred in 1877 to the mass grave, now covered by the Battlefield Monument on Last Stand Hill.
