Ruff was my dog.I named Ruff after Dennis the Menace's dog, Ruff. My Daddy bought him for me on December 3rd. 1992 for Christmas. He was only 3 weeks old when we got him. His mother had been hit by a car and all the puppies were given to an adoption agency. I chose Ruff because he wouldn't stop looking at me and he whined when I started to leave his cage. We were inseparable for the next almost 5 years until I got married. I left him with my parents because I'm too close to the road where I live and didn't have a place to keep him up at the time. I didn't have the heart to take him away too because he and my Daddy were so close. I knew it would hurt both of them. Everyone in my family took Ruff as there own. He was spoiled rotten. Ruff developed cancer in his leg about 2 years after I left home. He was 6 or 7 years old then. We managed to keep him doing good until he started going down a few months ago. Ruff was a wonderful companion and guard dog. He would protect whoever lived in that house fiercely. He was a real character. He would howl to the Kit Kat and Wendy's hamburger commercials. He also sang to church songs. He especially liked Amazing Grace for some reason. He loved to hear children sing. He would howl along everytime. Most of all he liked to sing to the Happy Birthday song. Every time one of us would have a birthday my parents would call us and Ruff would sing to us. His birthday song was so popular that we had friends and kin folk that would call on their own birthdays to hear Ruff howl for them. We have him on tape doing it. Ruff will be badly missed by us all. He has been a part of our family for 14 years and it's going to be hard to get used to him not being here with us anymore. Ruff you may be gone but you'll never be forgotten. You were a bright light in our family for 14 years and you will forever be in our hearts. As long as you love the ones you lose, you'll never lose the ones you love!!! Mama loves you more than words can say sweetheart. Rest in peace, we'll be along with you again one day.
CAUSE OF DEATH : OLD AGE AND COMPLICATIONS FROM CANCER.
"Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge...
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted! And when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet,so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together..." Author unknown
