JOHN B. FILEGER Was a prisoner of war in Germany for 18 months
HOLLY HILL, Fla. _ John B. Fileger, 76, of South Daytona Shores, Fla., formerly of Girard, died Friday, April 16, 1999, at his home.
He was born in Fairview, May 3, 1922, son of the late Jerome and Wilma Blystone Fileger.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II and was a prisoner of war in Germany for 18 months. He earned the rank of Staff Sgt. and was a turret gunner on a B-24.
He was preceded in death by his wife of nine years, Dorothy Jean Dryer; a brother, Herbert Fileger; and a sister, Dorothy Mae Fileger.
He is survived by two brothers, Eugene Fileger and his wife, Ann, of Girard and Royce Fileger of Addison, N.Y.; two sisters, Lois Gilbert and her husband, Wayne, of Girard and Vivian Richardson and her husband, Leo, of Waterford; and several nieces and nephews.
There will be no calling hours. A service will be held at a later date. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Arrangements were handled by the Dale Woodward Funeral Home, 167 Ridgewood Ave., Holly Hill.

World War II veteran. Dates of service: 9/17/1942-10/13/1945. He is listed under the World War II Prisoner of War, noting that he was detained by Germany but later "returned to military control, liberated, or repatriated."
