Birth: Mar. 16, 1979
Harris County
Texas, USA
Death: May 8, 2005, Iraq

Givens, a Texas native, lived much of his childhood in Mobile before moving to North Carolina. He met his wife, Cayssia, before his first deployment to Iraq in 2003. They married three days before he shipped out for a second tour. The couple had a 2-year-old son, Blake. The day before he died, a delivery man with a dozen roses showed up at his mother's home. Joyce McDuffie told the man he must have been given the wrong address. But the card said "Happy Mother's Day" and was signed by Steven. "He wasn't the type to send flowers." He was a former student of Baker High School. Preceded in death by Grandfather, SFC Retired, Willie E. Givens, uncle, Charles Givens, sister, Stephanie N. Givens, great grandmother, Mamie M. Brannan and great grand mom, Julia (Maw) McDuffie. Survived by father and mother, Mike and Joyce McDuffie of Mobile; wife, Cayssis Givens, son Blake Devin Givens, both of Columbus, GA; brother, Christopher Etheridge of Saraland; grandparents, Helen J. Givens of Saraland, Norma and Gerald Pierce of Tanner Williams; Givens spent much of his childhood in Mobile, often asked family and friends from his hometown to send him Mardi Gras beads and candy for the kids in Iraq. At the entrance to the cemetery, Givens' flag-draped casket was loaded onto a horse-drawn caisson. Led by a bagpiper and a drummer, members of the family followed on foot as the procession moved slowly through the cemetery to the grave site. A six-member rifle squad from Fort Rucker performed a 21-gun salute, and a bugler concluded the ceremony by playing "Taps". He had only been married for three days when he shipped out for his second tour of duty in Iraq.
