Martha O'Neil was the daughter of James O'Neil and Martha Beggs. Martha was the fourth child of eight children.

She was married Tuesday 27 December 1898 in the Presbyterian Church, Barton, Allegany County, Maryland, to William Henry Chappell, by Oscar Woodward Feigle AM, Minister of Gospel. Witnesses were: Mrs. Martha (Beggs) O'Neil, Otila Durst, Robert O'Neil, Jane McDonaldson, William Philpot, Mrs. Philpot, Mary Patterson, Florence Andrews, William Sigler, Mrs. Mary Sigler, Mary Hamilton, Minnie Davis, Cora M. Athey, John O'Neil, Lizzie O'Neil, and Stella Gannon.

William Henry was the second child and son born to Edwin Chappell and Edith (Reves) Chappell. They immigrated from England, and William Henry was born in Jackson, Jackson County, Michigan. His older brother was born in Canada.

Martha and William had 7 children: One died at birth and the other one died after a few days. The children were:
James Edwin Chappell married Evelyn Eva Russell;
William John Chappell, Sr. married Philomena Arnold;
Baby No Name b: 07 Nov 1904 d: 07 Nov 1904;
Thomas Alvin Chappell married Helen Madeline McNally;
Charles Albert Chappell married first to Emma Foye, when she died he married a widowed lady Dora Densock and the third wife was a widowed lady, Virginia F. Shank;
Harry O'Neil Chappell married Idella Moore;
Robert Chester Chappell b: 26 June 1918 d: 02 July 1918.
They grew up on Walnut Street, Barton, Allegany County, Maryland.

William Henry died 26 June 1918 in Barton and Martha maintained the house for years and then her son Tom moved in with his family and in later years James Edwin and his family lived there on Walnut Street. Martha O'Neil Chappell died 23 June 1956 at the Sylvan Retreat, where she had been a resident for a very short time. She was 80 years 7 months 17 days old at the time of her death.
The funeral was from the Methodist Church, Barton with the Rev. Byron H. Keesecker officiating. Burial was in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Moscow, Allegany County, Maryland.
