He was born in Parkersburg on Aug. 7, 1925, and was the son of the late Earl William and Goldie Irene Atkinson Brookover. He retired from Union Carbide in 1985 and was a member of the West Virginia Quarter Horse Association. He was a World War II Navy veteran.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Eva Jean Rexroad Brookover; his daughter, Rebecca Jean Blackburn of Belpre; three brothers, Jim Brookover and his wife, Ina, of Vincent, Ohio, Michael Brookover of Vienna and Joe Brookover and his wife, Janet, of Vienna; three sisters, Edith "Tootie" James of Vienna, Mary Ann Valentine and her husband, Pastor Leon, of Vienna, and Susie Hornbeck and her husband, Joe, of Blue Goose, W.Va.; two sisters-in-law, Mildred Miller of Vienna and Thyra "Tiny" Gainer of Belpre; his special pets, Rogan and Alley; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Pauline Brannon; a brother, Charles L. Brookover; and his mother and father-in-law, Charles and Grace Rexroad.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Leavitt Funeral Home, Belpre, with Pastor Leon Valentine officiating. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. There will be a family gathering at the Leavitt Family Center following the services on Thursday.
