Blessed Be His Memory

I recall one night, my parents getting into a heated debate about the 1960 Presidential Election. As we were finishing supper, Mom abruptly stood up at her end of the dinning room table, claiming Kennedy would make a better president, while my dad sat at the other end, proclaiming Nixon would be the better candidate. Looking back its kind of funny, but as a young child it wasn't so funny. Usually, I favored my dad. But, I would have to side in with mom on this one, dad. Lesson learned, don't discuss politics with your spouse. And also, all through life mom advised us kids, never go to bed angry, and be sure to kiss each other good night. Think that was experience talking.

I was rather timid and shy as a child. Rather reserve around people. But, around my dad I was very open in showing my affections. I would get up early to kiss him good-bye as he was leaving for work. Mom or dad would ask me, "Why are you up so early?" I would just smile. Many evenings, I would sit on the door step, waiting for him to come home. I would run to the garage to greet him. As we walked to the house together, I would carry his lunch bucket for him. Then he would ask me, "Babe, how was your day?"
This memory really tugs at my heart strings. Your "Babe" will love you forever, Dad.
