Richard "Dick" Oliver a 79 year old native of Santa Clara and former Santa Cruz resident for 27 yeards died of a sudden heart attack while camping with his family in Chester on Saturday. He was a well known stone mason in the San Jose area before retiring to Modesto 7 years ago.
While a resident of Santa Cruz he and his wife built their dream house on Hidden Drive. He was an active member of the Santa Cruz Bible Church and had also been active in the Scoots Valley Baptist Church for many years. He was a veteran of the US Navy and was devoted to his family.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Betty Oliver of Modesto; his children Earl of Washington, Chester of Bonny Doon, Richard of Modesto, Katherine of San Mateo, Kenneth of San jose and his special (Up's) daughter Darlene of Modesto. He is also survived by his sister, Eldora Enfantino of San Jose, 9 grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to call at the Oakwood Memorial Chapel, 3301 Paul Sweet Road, Santa Cruz on Friday June 4 from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, June 5 at 10:00 AM at the Santa Cruz Bible Church, 440 Frederick St., Santa Cruz. Burial will follow at the Oakwood Memorial Park. Contributions to the GEMS Sunday School class, C/O Santa Cruz Bible Church are preferred.
Final arrangements have been entrusted to oakwood memorial chapel an enduring tradition to Santa Cruz families.
