Henrietta was born April 21, 1907, in Amana, Iowa, the second of six children born to Samuel Fels and Dorothea Fritsche. She married Henry Schiff on December 4, 1924, in Amana on the same day as Dave and Helen Seifert Krauss. Henry and Henriette had one daughter and due to difficulties with the birth Henriette was often ill during her life. Still, she never let it slow her down. She would walk every day, mow her own lawn and even rollerskate in her basement to build her strength. She took great pride in her gardens and her family. Henry was always her focus in life and they were never apart - even when she went into the hospital and he ended up on the same floor at the same time. The nurses loved to watch the two of them walking arm in arm on the hospital floor. Even death could not separate them for long. Henriette died six weeks after Henry and they were buried side by side - an unusual event in Amana where families are buried chronologically.

Henry and Henriette were married for 70 years and enjoyed three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was a kind and gentle soul who saw the good in everyone.
