Interim Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. He was a Cooper serving aboard the USS Adams at Mare Island, California, on November 14, 1879, when he earned his Medal. His citation reads: Serving on board the U.S.S. Adams at the Navy Yard, Mare Island, Calif., 14 November 1879, Johnson rescued Daniel W. Kloppen, a workman, from drowning. He was awarded his Medal on October 18, 1884.  (bio by: Ugaalltheway)
