Michael C. Kokinda, 68, of 29 E. 23rd St., Hazleton, passed away Thursday morning at Kindred Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.
He was born in Beaver Meadows, the son of the late Michael W. and Margaret (Mehalko) Kokinda.
Prior to his retirement, Michael was the administrator of transportation and safety for the Hazleton Area School District, and he also worked for Keystone Job Corps, Drums.
Michael was a member of Queen of Heaven Parish at Our Lady of Grace Roman Catholic Church, Hazleton, and was also a member of the Pennsylvania State Retired Employees.
Prior to his illness, Michael was also a member of the Eagles Club, Owls Club, Pulaski Club and the Elks Club.
Mike was a loving husband and devoted father. He was loyal, generous and always there for his family.
Michael was also the owner of Michael's Vault in downtown Hazleton.
Surviving are his wife, the former Rosemary (Carrelli) Kokinda; one daughter, Sheri Lynn Kokinda, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and sisters and a brother, Rosemary Kerr, Hometown; Shirley Ciculya and her husband, Cyril, Beaver Meadows; and Robert Kokinda and his wife, Ann, New Hampshire. Also surviving are his mother-in-law, Catherine Carrelli, Hazleton; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Neil Carrelli and his wife, Rosemary, Hazleton; Michael Carrelli and his wife, Marilyn, Hazleton; Marylou Thibadeult and her husband, Paul, Hazleton; Louise Makaravitz and her husband, John, Hazleton; and the Honorable Joseph Carrelli, mayor of Conyngham, and his wife, Joan. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 9 a.m. from Frank J. Bonin Funeral Home Inc., 542 N. Wyoming St., Hazleton.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. in Transfiguration R.C. Church, West Green Street, West Hazleton, due to the renovations taking place in Queen of Heaven Parish at Our Lady of Grace R.C. Church.
Interment will follow in Our Lady of Grace R.C. Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m.
The family requests that memorial donations be made to the American Red Cross, 165 Susquehanna Blvd., West Hazleton, PA 18202.
