GREENUP -- Charles Victor Ormsby, 79, of rural Greenup died at 4:15 p.m. Monday (Sept. 16, 1996) at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Bishop Funeral Home, Greenup, with the Rev. Hugh Smith officiating. Burial will be in Washington Street Cemetery, Casey, with graveside rites by the American Legion 40 and 8. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
He was born April 1, 1917, in Casey, the son of Basil and Jessie Hill Ormsby. He married Myrtle Sanders in 1937; she survives.
Other survivors include three sons, Leonard Ormsby of Greenup, Charles Ormsby of Decatur and George Ormsby of Robinson; a half brother, Dick Kern of Sylvania, Ohio; three half sisters, Clara Vail of Toledo, Ohio, Wilma Watkins of Sylvania, Ohio, and Shirley Kerns of New Orleans, La.; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother and a half brother.
Mr. Ormsby was a retired farmer and employee of the state of Illinois. He was a member of East United Brethren of Casey, the American Legion Post 566 of Casey, the Odd Fellow Lodge of Greenup, the Greenup Masonic Lodge and was a WWII Army veteran.
