Barrie L. Bryant Sr., 67, died Dec. 22, 2006.
Born May 11, 1939, in Springfield, Mo., he was the son of Cullan Charles and Padg Townsend Bryant. He moved to Walnut Ridge when he was four years old and was raised by his grandmother, Neva Townsend. He also occasionally stayed in Little Rock with his great-aunt, Elsye T. Duttlinger, and her husband, Fred. He graduated from Walnut Ridge High School in 1957 and worked for various companies in purchasing. He also served in the National Guard and had the honor of guarding President Kennedy at the dedication of Greers Ferry.
He moved to Little Rock in 1970 and became a full-time student at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. He graduated cum laude with a BA in management and labor and did post-graduate study in business management.
He was the director of purchasing for the Pulaski County Special School District until he started his own construction and building company, Bryant, Inc., in 1977.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Bryant.
Survivors include his wife, Alene Bryant; two sons, Cullan Bryant and Barrie Bryant Jr.; a brother, Cullan Bryant; a grandson, Cullan Yamato Bryant; and Carrah Sandage, the mother of his sons.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Jan. 9 at 6 p.m. at Pulaski Heights Baptist Church in Little Rock. Burial will be in Walnut Ridge on Jan. 10.
