Celia (Edmonson) Harp was born on Sep. 10, 1782 in South Carolina, and is believed to have been an orphan. Her parentage has never been established. She married Dixon Martin Harp in about 1798 in Georgia, at the age of 16. She has been described as a gentle, meek woman, who stood small in stature and possessed high cheek bones with dark hair, divulging a trace of Native American blood. She was a woman of faith who was frugal and of strong character.
She is buried beside her husband and children in the Harp Family section of Glenwood Cemetery, Thomaston, Georgia.
